Let’s change Arizona’s dog legislation.

In response to 3Tv’s excellent continued coverage of the story below (http://www.scottsdalepetexpert.com/announcments/dog-attack-at-chaparrel-park-517/) and after many of you have expressed your interest in trying to get the laws changed and start a petition – I am offering up this blog and my ability to cross post over various networks as a place to begin.

Dogs who have a history of aggressive behavior (which I think can be stopped with a RESPONSIBLE owner) need to be prohibited from contact with the public.

We need to give the state the power to do something about dog attacks on each other.

Who is with me?
Who can step up and figure out the who, what, when, where, why?
Who can be committed and help support this?

With proper organization – this can happen.  We can figure out the steps as we go.

This, all in memory of all the dogs (including Sydney) that have been victim of these horrible attacks. Special thanks to Elite Pet Care, Doggie Step Dog Training, 3TV, the VCA Emergency Vet Hospital in Mesa (who has been helping Syd), and all those who have posted comments, emailed the media, re-posted this story, and helped make this cause HEARD.

  • Yes. let find out how we can do this. Itwould pretty much be an ammendment to the current vicious dog petition to include dog on dog attacks. Dog fights in dog parks are pretty normal, so they probably wont be covered as its an at your own risk park. BUT in a public park an off leash, leash law violator, can be a real contender to the vicious petition.
How can it not be?! A loose dog that viciously attacks a leashed dog with its owner, unprovoked, is mental. its a public safety issue.
I really believe that any person that wants to own a pitbull needs to have a time frame wheree they have to, by law, get the dog certified as a canine good citizen. If someone wants to own a pitbull but cant bother to train them then they cant own one. PERIOD.
on a side note it should be illegal for backyard breeders to breed pitbulls as they are not breeding for temperment. All they care about is pumping out puppies for money.

  • Great points Sarah!!!! Especially the last one about the back yard breeders. Nothing annoys me more than people who breed for a quick $

  • i am going to add… any dog that is a “high prey drive” dog as banned by most apartment complexes should have to go through CGC!

  • Thanks for the interesting and informative article. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to more in the future.

  • Pamela:

I’m with you – Let me know how I can help!
